Drafts by the author: the automotive drawings signed by Paolo Martin

In occasione della mostra “Vision in design” che si terrà da maggio a luglio 2022 a Venezia, OutsidePrint wants to pay homage to his historic friend and collaborator Paolo Martin with a brief presentation of his author's drafts. These are sketches and drawings made by one of the most important Italian automotive designers.

The exhibition

From May to July 2022 an exhibition will be set up 136 sketches by the creative Paolo Martin, at Ca'Balbi Valier Dorsoduro 866, south grand channel. The event is private and can only be visited upon request.

Paolo Martin: some biographical notes

A true connoisseur of engines cannot fail to know a champion like Paolo Martin (Torino, 7 maggio 1943). A similar argument could be made with a football fan who does not know who Roberto Baggio or Cristiano Ronaldo is. In any case, for those who do not know him, Paolo Martin is the Italian designer of four-wheeled masterpieces such as: Ferrari Modulo 512, Ford Blue Car, Bugatti EB 110 / PM1- 1989 e Rolls Royce Camargue.

Paolo Martin's career began in the 1960s at the Giovanni Michelotti studio and later at Bertone. But it is with the step in Pininfarina that the definitive consecration takes place, automotive company where Martin becomes head of design, designing masterpieces such as the spectacular Ferrari Modulo concept car 512. After years of experience and awards, the designer passes to the free profession.

Martin has his own design philosophy centered on matter and the sinuosity of forms. It concept car design it then comes to life, becoming a work of art. Whether you're talking about a car, a boat or any other object, the important thing is always to satisfy a real need.

The author also ventured into other fields of design (luxury boats, bicycles and objects) not only in that of automotive design, effectively marking the history of Italian design. His design thinking is a starting point for future creatives in the automotive sector .

His work is preserved in numerous volumes accompanied by car drawings, photographs and drafts which underline his winning method. From concept to production, models depicting some of the most famous cars of the last century.
